Summary
Wayte is an experience platform transforming restaurant diners’ wait time into engaging experiences. The objective was to design an experience platform that turns wait times into opportunities for fun and connection, providing diners with engaging, rewarding activities directly from their mobile devices.
Users and Needs
The client reached out to design an MVP compatible with mainstream browsers on iOS and Android (mobile)devices.
Diners often experience boredom during wait times, leading to dissatisfaction and missed opportunities for restaurants to enhance the guest experience. Key challenges for the startup included:
Convincing restaurants to partner: an MVP to demonstrate clear value to restaurant owners and managers.
Engaging diverse audiences: a platform that can cater to a wide range of diners, from families to solo visitors.
Building loyalty: a system that entertains diners and also encourages repeat visits and positive word-of-mouth.
I collaborated with the startup to understand its vision and target market. We identified features that balance user engagement and business benefits from insights gathered from their surveys and research.
The app concept centered on gamification and ease of use. Wireframes and prototypes were developed to showcase how diners could seamlessly interact with the platform via a QR code, engaging in activities while earning rewards.
Solution and Key Features
User Interface: a clean and vibrant design, optimized for web use, ensured accessibility on both mobile and desktop devices.
Core Features: single and Multiplayer Games: Offering solo challenges and collaborative games for social engagement.
Gamified Rewards: points and badges for participation and winning, redeemable for restaurant discounts or exclusive perks.
Seamless QR Code Entry: instant access via QR codes placed on tables, requiring no downloads or app installations.
Scalability: a modular design approach allows for future feature expansion and integration with restaurant loyalty systems.
Results and Impacts
Validated concept: early feedback from potential restaurant partners highlighted the platform’s promise as a differentiator in a competitive market.
Strong business case: the MVP positions the startup to approach restaurant partners confidently, showcasing the potential to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty.
This MVP design highlights the potential of a unique, experiential platform for restaurants. By turning wait times into moments of fun and connection, the platform enriches the diner’s experience and provides restaurants with a tool to attract and retain customers. This project showcases how strategic design can bridge user needs and business goals, paving the way for innovative partnerships.
